In July 1999, Centrica, the leading supplier of energy and services
to the home in Great Britain, announced its intention to buy the
AA for £1.1 billion. The sale was completed in September,
after their members voted overwhelmingly in favour.
In July 2001 they bought the car-servicing arm of Halfords, another
of the ways in which they are constantly expanding and improving
the products and services they offer to their customers.
